Defeat is only the beginning.
Hundreds of years ago, the Egyptian god Set was worshipped as the god of wind and the desert storms. He would grant the strength of the storms to his followers and though unpredictable, he was good to those who honored him. He was the ally of Osiris, Isis, Nephthys and the defender of their father Ra. But being left alone in the desert will change a man, cause his mind to wander and lose itself until suddenly there is nothing left of the original person. So indeed, Set changed, and he became the God of evil, conflict, and violence. He became the god that represented all evil and threatened the harmony and peace in Egypt at the time.
In his unexpected madness, going forth and catching every other god off guard, Set kills his brother Osiris and attempts to kill his nephew Horus, the son of Osiris. However, young Horus managed to escape and survived Set's attack. Horus became the enemy of Set, and eventually avenged his father’s death, banishing Set to the desert forever. There were many stories told of Set and Horus' as they continued to battle for control of the world, despite Set's first defeat. To the Egyptians, they represent and were the epic conflict of good versus evil.
Fast forward to modern times, 2016 to be exact, where the worship and belief in the gods has long been forgotten, and their stories simply written off as fantastic myths. However, they are not myths, they are very much alive. Set, still angry with Horus and angry with the world, gathered his forces to take control of the world through bloodshed and fear. Gods, monsters, and demons of history long ago join his side, including a few demigods.
At the same time, Horus, seeing the God of Evil preparing for war, also begins to bring together his own army. This time, their war will be fought on a much bigger scale, across Egypt and all over the world. Horus calls together old allies from all parts of the world to join his side, especially the younger generations: the demigods, mostly his own descendants, but all of them. He offers them a chance to prove themselves and the ultimate prize, to be raised to the status of a god and live forever.
Anubis, shepherd of the dead, is the neutral ground in this conflict, alongside Osiris. The jackal-headed god takes in the orphans of the gods and war and guides them as he does to the dead, except he does not bring them to the afterlife unless it is their time. They are allowed to reside peacefully in the darkness of the place between life and death, a black desert only broken by a worn path and a large palace, clearly falling to ruin. The kingdom of Anubis is only accessible to those who he allows, and can be banished just as easily as they came. Take heed, Anubis is not a very forgiving god.
Whose side do you pick in this war? Do you wish to conquer the world? Do you wish to defend it? Or do you simply want nothing to do with it? Either way, you must pick a side, for soon, no matter what you do...
The world will be stained with blood and covered in sand.
Rise of Set is a rp based loosely around the movie 'Gods of Egypt', therefore some of the things that took place in the movie did take place in the lives of the gods.
Here's a rough summary:
Set killed Osiris and took both of Horus' eyes, claiming Egypt as his own and establishing that to get into Duat(Egyptian version of heaven) one must be extremely wealthy. He conquered almost all of the gods, stealing from some of them parts of their bodies that would make him stronger(ex. Nephyths wings). Eventually he attacked and took Ra's spear, releasing Apophis on the free world to devour the nile and try to devour the Underworld. Horus fought with him, and succeeded, giving Ra's spear back and bringing peace to the world. In his reign he established that to get into Duat, one must prove oneself worthy by doing good deeds in their life.
Here's the twist:
In the movie Set was killed, in the plot, Set barely made it back to his pyramid. There he holed up until he was strong again, and the battle between he and Horus began anew, now in 2016. There you have it, everything cleared up and ready!
